Region comprises of the following countries;

.
These Countries surround Great Lakes of Africa
that are in and around the Great Rift Valley.
These include Lakes Victoria (2nd largest
fresh water lake in the world),
Tanganyika
, Kivu, Albert, Edward, and
Malawi
.
Lakes
Victoria, Albert, and Edward empty into White Nile,
Lakes Tanganyika and Kivu into Congo river system, and
Lake Malawi drained by Shire river into Zambezi.
